Vincent Hartley the founder of Hartley Botanic was a revolutionary engineer who was inspired by Sir Joseph Paxtons Crystal Palace. It was this inspiration that led him to create the glasshouse of the century.  In 1937 he patented his original aluminium glasshouse which excelled over its Victorian wood or wrought iron forerunners. Hartley Botanic's creations can now be seen in place such as Hampton Court Palace, The Grosvenor Estates and Oxford and Glasgow Botanic Gardens.

Vincent Hartley's philosophy was the inspiration that led to the foundation of Apropos Tectonic.  Apropos specialise in bespoke aluminium structures which create contemporary extensions for modern buildings and homes. Comparable to Hartley, Apropos have an ever expanding portfolio of private individuals and commercial clients who they have created bespoke glass structures for.

In 1999 Gabriel Ash were added to Hartley Botanic's ever expanding portfolio of companies, creating cedar greenhouses which were a fusion of tradition and technology, far more superior than the rest. Adding Gabriel Ash to the portfolio meant that Hartley Botanic were not only developing structures in glass and aluminium but were expanding out into western red cedar structures. Gabriel Ash products have earned a world famous reputation for horticultural excellence that they are all endorsed by The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).

Atelier was commissioned by Apropos to go to the next level in the design and construction of exclusive garden buildings.  Atelier is a structure designed and built to the highest standards that use state of the art design, manufacturing and material technologies to achieve extraordinary architecture.

Atelier formed links with Salford University school of built environment through the Knowledge Transfer partnership. The partnership uses graduates to form a link between academic knowledge and industry knowledge, which in turn provides employment for graduates, industry knowledge for the university and its students and endless resources for the employer.
